John Baxter

John was able to merge his love for golf and desire to explore the civil discipline of drafting. when he began working for Greg Norman Golf Course Design in Sydney, Australia. He prepared all design and construction documentation for courses throughout Australasia. John honed his skills in the creation of computer aided drawings including cut/fill volumes, grading plans, green detail, 3D wireframe green detail, and conceptual masterplans. In addition, John began his pursuit in the development of 3D full colour presentational images for proposed projects and marketing materials.

John continued his adventure into the 3D colour image jungle with another prominent Sydney golf course architect as he create images for courses around the world including South Korea, the Philippines, South Vietnam India, China, South America, North America, Bali, Malaysia, Japan, Greece, Romania, Dubai, and Vanuatu.

"I was on a mission to streamline the process of using AutoCAD contour files in concert with many other programs to create a final full colour 3D image of what the course will look like when it's built. My goal was to produce the highest quality realistic detail in the shortest possible turn-around time . . . and now I'm there."

John now manages his own company JB CAD Services located on the beautiful Central Coast of New South Wales, an hour north of Sydney Australia. John provides his expertise in a variety of ways including golf course design, preparing the construction detail documents for golf course remodeling, as a site supervisor and even on site as a licenced skidsteer machine operator, assisting to shape his own site designs.

"It's nice to get out of the office once in a while and get dirty. Hands-on experience in the construction has helped me to create better construction images for my clients."

As a designer for a golf course on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia, John has created one of only a few synthetic greens in Australia in general play on a golf course.

"Synthetic greens are not for the purist, but in drought situations across the world, they provide a surface that requires no irrigation and minimal subsurface drainage."

John continues to add new techniques to his skill set as technology allows. His constant desire to enhance the realism of his 3D images is apparent in his impressive images of golf course projects around the world.
